Intro to Pixels and Progress

Hi everyone! I hope that you're all doing well!

As this being my first blog entry I thought I'd share a bit about me, the reason why I chose to study IT and my interests in current emerging technologies, a fun exercise that each student had to do today in class.

A bit about me:

My name is Lami'ah :) An Arabic name which means 'Bright, Shining Light' ✨. I'm an international student from the beautiful country of South Africa. One real thing that I'm loving about Dubai is the safety it offers, especially for women and children -- something that is, unfortunately, NOT guaranteed in my home country :(

Another thing about me is that I have a slight obsession with Google Doodles. And the Google Doodle of the day is a doodle showcasing Google's birthday! 🥳 #25yearsOfGoogle

Why I chose IT:

I think I've been interested in the subject even before I could understand what it actually was about. I've always felt that technology has been quite intuitive to me and a constant sense of gravitation towards it. Overall, I believe that IT is an important subject to have an adequate understanding on, especially for us living in the Age of Information.

My interests in current emerging technologies:

Here is a brief list that I'm 100% sure will be much longer after the end of this module!

Augmented Reality

I think AR is quite cool! Especially in the retail industry. I "tried on" a pair of sneakers the other day just by pointing my phone camera to my foot! Our lecturer mentioned how it can also be used to display furniture in your home.

IoT Smart Devices

I'm interested in learning more about how these devices work, especially when it comes to smart devices (such as smart watches) being able to take medical readings!

Artificial Intelligence

AI has suddenly become a significant part of our lives especially with the rise of ChatGPT and the other AI programs that have followed it. I'm interested to see how we adapt to it within the next 5 to 10 years.
